I am a language enthusiast but don't have a connection to Vietnamese (I am at a B2 in Mandarin however, so I've studied an Asian language before), but I am amazed at how challenging the phonology of Vietnamese is! For any westerner who has tried to study Vietnamese, you must be very brave! How long did it take you before you felt comfortable speaking Vietnamese (or understood by a native speaker)?

Spent 5 years in SE Asia Vietnam doesnt have much of a nightlife but its easily the most beautiful counry Ive ever been to. Ha Long Bay is the most amazing spot I saw there and is a definite recommend though take a buddy along, being solo on a boat with strangers overnight would be awkward. Also most beautiful ladies in the world. Most dont speak english or really down with chatting to a foreigner but are simply jaw dropping. If your a gal the guys apparently are also quite attractive and a lot of the Brit gals I saw traveling with were very into them.
